Description
In 1954, the Republican Design Institute presented a project called a grandstand with a bandstand for mass events in the park of culture and Recreation "Mezhapark". The architects who developed the project were V. V. Shnitnikov and G. Irbite. The construction of the bandstand was completed by the XII Song Festival, which took place in 1955. It was originally planned that 7,000 singers and 100 pairs of dancers would be able to perform on stage at the same time, and the audience area could accommodate up to 35,000 people. Although the architectural appearance of the stage has remained unchanged to this day, until 1990 it was decorated with sculptures created by Lev Bukovsky. There are also backstage areas next to the stage, decorated in the style of Latvian national ornaments.
